Goodbye, Spring Break!

Somehow our whole week of Spring Break is over now.  And we are really going to miss it!  It was nice to have a break from doing school every day.  I had hoped to do something fun with the kids over Spring Break, but didn't manage to get anything done.  Well, that's what I thought until I started looking back over the week.  We did manage to:
1. Spend a day with my sister and my parents.
2. Get the house cleaned.
3. Muck out the little kid's room.
4. Do more loads of laundry than I can count (and get them folded and put away!).
5. Visit Derland's parents a few nights.  Even go for walks with Derland's mom.
6. Go grocery shopping.
7. Make breakfast cookies.
8. Make almond butter.
9. Make granola bars.
10. Muck out the garage. (It still needs some help!)
11. Watch TV about all this mess in Japan.
12. Knit some dishrags.
13. Take a car load of things to Goodwill.
14. Meet Derland for lunch.
15. Catch up on my blogs.

So, maybe the whole week wasn't wasted.  Although, I'd like a re-do next week to see if I could get something else accomplished. :-)

Mud

Somehow I managed to not have any pictures of the kids playing in the mud.  Probably because I am hoping that if I ignore it, it won't be true.  But, this has been their entertainment for the last several days.  I have had mud on the kitchen floor, mud in the carpet, and, mainly, mud on clothes!  There is some kind of fascination with my kids and mud. 

Surprise Visit

One of my friends surprised me last Sunday by stopping by to visit! Her husband was here in town working with the military and she came up from Houston to see him.  Looking back we have been friends for 20 years.  Who'd have thought 20 years could go so quickly from that day we met at the homeschool group back in Houston?  We don't get to visit very often, but we've managed to keep in touch all these years.  It was really fun to see our children get to play together.  I'm already looking forward to the next time she's able to stop by.  And, hopefully, one of these days we'll get to make a trip down to visit in Houston.

And, just for the record, I'm still jealous of her hair 20 years later. :-)

Gardening

It's Spring here in Texas and that means gardening time.  Somehow, my sweet husband was able to fit making a garden into his busy schedule.  He worked so hard to get it all set up.  I hope that we are able to get lots of good vegetables out of it this spring and summer.  We planted tomatoes and bell peppers.  Then he let the kids pick out what they wanted.  Samuel wanted okra, Joseph wanted cucumbers, Rebekah wanted carrots and Isaiah picked cauliflower and broccoli.

The last couple of weeks have gotten away from me.  We have been busy worrying about my precious mother-in-law.  She had her surgery last Friday and seems to be doing well.  We are very thankful for how well she has done and are hoping that she continues to do well.

Potholders

Last week I bought some potholder looms at Hobby Lobby.  I showed them to Joseph and Samuel. They both sat down to work and in no time had finished their potholders.
